A 5-minute experience with bespoke sound and lighting depicting the cycle of a rain storm in Milton Court Studio Theatre, London.
Storm Proof (Endless, Endless) is a fully immersive light, video, and sound installation that explores the sensory and emotional experience of a rain storm. The piece conveys the feeling of neurodiverse overwhelm, symbolised through the cyclical nature of endless rain. As a sensory journey, it immerses the audience in a storm that builds in intensity before transitioning to a fresh, calm sunrise accompanied by birdsong. Through this work, I aimed to create a tangible experience that mirrors the emotional turbulence and eventual relief associated with sensory overload, particularly as it relates to one aspect of neurodiversity.
I constructed a a 6kg cloud from 500 pixel lights, 300 ballpit balls in dark grey, light grey, white and transparent, 200 white ping pong balls, painted chicken wire and fishing wire. 3m of fabric deploys projection of animated rain into a pool of water at the base to catch the reflections. Two toy fish swim to agitate the water. Combined with the audio, the water ripples vibrated in time with the bass notes in the room.
Video projection created in Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro. Pixel mapping and LED data run through Resolume Arena and OSC programming for sound and lighting.
